American-Nigerian singer, Collins Obinna Chibueze, popularly known as Shaboozey, has bagged two nominations at the 2024 Country Music Awards.
Shaboozey was nominated in the New Artist of the Year category, while the hit chart-topping song, ‘Tipsy (A Bar Song)’ was nominated in the Single of the Year category.
Shaboozey’s ‘Tipsy’ has equalled Beyoncé’s U.S Billboard Hot 100 record and is now officially the most streamed song in the U.S in 2024, according to music monitoring platform, Chart Data. The song already has over 700 million streams on Spotify alone.
The song also surpassed Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ & Benson Boone’s ‘Beautiful Things’ to become the best selling song in America this year.
Celebrating his achievement in a statement on X on Monday night, September 9,Shaboozey said he sang about winning a CMA in 2016. He then sympathized with Beyonce who didn’t get any nominations despite her US chart topping Country album.
He wrote, “Wrote a song about winning a CMA in 2016, and now I’m nominated for 2! Thank you @CountryMusic and congrats to the other nominees. What an honor would be an understatement. #CMAawards”
He said Beyoncé’s country album ‘Cowboy Cater’ is one of the most innovative country albums of all time and “opened a door” for Black country musicians.
“That goes without saying. Thank you @Beyonce for opening a door for us, starting a conversation, and giving us one of the most innovative country albums of all time!” he wrote
Shaboozey has previously revealed that working with Beyoncé on her country album ‘Cowboy Cater’ changed his life.
