Former England midfielder, Paul Scholes, has offered his thoughts on Bruno Fernandes’ red card in Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Manchester United were beaten 3-0 in front of their home fans at Old Trafford on the night.
The host conceded within the first three minutes courtesy of Brennan Johnson’s strike.
Spurs went on to score two more goals in the second half through Dejan Kulusevski in the 47th and Dominic Solanke in the 77th minute.
Bruno Fernandes was sent off in the 42nd minute after he made an attempt to win the ball from James Maddison, slipped and raised his boot against Maddison’s shin.
Referee Chris Kavanagh did not think twice before showing him a straight red card.
Scholes blamed the Portuguese for even giving the referee the opportunity to make such a decision.
“He shouldn’t give him a chance, should he? I know he has slipped – it’s not a red card. We know it isn’t.
“But why give the referee an opportunity to do it? It’s petulant again from the captain, who is probably as bad as any of them in the first half.”
