Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has admitted that “one thing” could stop the team from winning the Premier League title this season.
The Reds’ 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Sunday saw them maintain a six-point lead over second-placed Arsenal.
The Anfield club is looking to clinch their 20th league title and first since 2020.
Arne Slot’s men seemed poised to pull even further clear at the summit after recovering from Lisandro Martinez’s second-half opener to lead 2-1 at Anfield through Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah.
But United were able to leave with a point, thanks to Amad Diallo’s 80th-minute equaliser.
Carragher believes the result proves that Liverpool don’t have the best defence in the league.
“Arsenal are better than Liverpool defensively. Liverpool are better going forward — they create more chances and score more goals,” Carragher said on Gary Neville’s Sky Sports podcast.
“But Liverpool in the full-back areas… Andy Robertson is hanging on for dear life.
“If Trent is having problems as well on the other side, that puts an awful lot of pressure on the middle two.
“Van Dijk saved Liverpool a lot today. He’s probably having to work too hard, and that’s the one thing that can stop Liverpool from winning the league — the full-back areas.”
