The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated an investigation into an incident involving a Max Air Boeing 737, which reportedly suffered a nose wheel landing gear collapse and a rear tire burst while landing at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident on Wednesday. According to Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the aircraft, with registration 5N-MBD, was carrying 53 passengers and six crew members when the mishap occurred on Runway 06/24 at 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday.

“Fortunately, all occupants escaped unhurt as emergency response teams swiftly managed the situation,” she stated.

FAAN noted that emergency protocols were immediately activated, and the aircraft was towed to Bay 5 for further investigation.

“The NSIB has commenced a probe to determine the cause of the incident,” FAAN added.

Following clean-up operations and safety inspections, the runway was reopened at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, allowing flight operations to resume.

FAAN reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining high safety standards across Nigeria’s airports.
