Popular Nigerian publisher, columnist, philanthropist, writer, and founder of Genevieve Magazine, Betty Irabor has tapped from her experience to share some advice for couples.
The Genevieve Magazine publisher shared a lovely photo of her and husband Soni Irabor at a Valentine’s Day outing yesterday, Feb. 14, 2025.
In the caption, she pointed out that they have had 42 Valentine’s Day dates together so far.
Using her experience at this year’s Valentine’s Day outing and the experiences gleaned over the years, she advised couples to “get up and dance” when their love song plays and to avoid wasting moments because they are fleeting.
She added that love requires “100 percent of your commitment” and urged couples to “do unto one as you wish the other would do to you”.
Her post reads: “When your love song plays.. do get up and dance.
“As the beautiful band @thedelborough played Chris de Burghs; Lady in red last night, Soni said to our friends, this is the song I used to chase (woo) Betty in those days.
“Then he looked at me and asked ‘why are you not wearing red?’ I chuckled shyly.
“We both wanted to dance but the moment passed as we reminisced on our earlier years valentine escapades. I am glad we built those beautiful memories but gladder that we are still building memories after 42 valentines dates together.
“Building memories together is a beautiful feeling because you can always draw from the well of those memories in tougher times.
“Sometimes it’s the heart that whispers -sweet somethings’ even when you’re saying nothing.
“Love is not always in the words we express but in the actions that define it.
“Love requires 100 percent of your commitment.
“It’s challenging to ‘give all’ to make it work but it’s doable when your heart and head are in it.
“It’s possible if it’s not based on fleeting emotions and inflated expectations.
It’s possible where there is no pressure to live in an idealistic world where everything is perfect.
“Make sure to store your love in the memory bank of your heart so that like the gardenia flower it can release its fragrance in all seasons.. high or low.
“And when your love song comes up on the turntable, please get up and dance.
“Don’t waste those moments because life is fleeting.
“I wish you more stamina in this long distance journey called marriage..Do unto the one as you wish the other would do to you.
“Invite Christ into your home.”
