Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that Malo Gusto has suffered a muscle injury, and “it’s not a good one.”
Maresca was speaking to reporters following a come-from-behind victory over Fulham.
Gusto came off the bench during the narrow 2-1 win at Craven Cottage but was substituted shortly afterwards.
The French defender is now set to be sidelined for an extended period.
“Unfortunately, it’s not a good one, a muscle problem, and you can see—against Ipswich, second half, he was inside, changed the game; today he was inside, changed the game—how important Malo is for us. Unfortunately, it looks like a muscle injury,” Maresca said.
Chelsea required a last-gasp strike from Pedro Neto to secure all three points.
The result keeps Maresca’s men within reach of Champions League qualification.
The Blues now sit fifth, which is the final Champions League qualification spot. They are level on points with both Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa in sixth and seventh respectively, but have a superior goal difference.
