Two motorcyclists have lost their lives and three other passengers severely injured in a road accident that occurred along the Mile 2 section of Aiyetoro-Abeokuta Expressway.

The accident involved a Toyota Camry with registration number BDG 260 JP, and two TVS motorcycles registered as LAR 880 VM and AAB 408 VX, respectively.

DAILY POST learnt that the accident occurred on Saturday, when the Toyota Camry driver overtook a vehicle in front of him without considering the incoming traffic, thereby leading to a head-on collision with two motorcycles.

Confirming the incident in a traffic update, the Commandant General of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Seni Ogunyemi, on Monday attributed the cause of the accident to wrongful overtaking and speeding.

He disclosed that seven male adults were involved, two dead, three severely injured and two others unhurt.

Oguyemi said, “According to an eyewitness, reckless driving coupled with excessive speeding on the part of the Toyota Camry driver who overtook a vehicle in front of him without considering the incoming traffic, led to a head-on collision with two motorcycles.

“Seven adult males were involved, three adult males were injured and two adult males died.”

He, however, noted that the corpses had been deposited at the State Hospital Morgue, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, while the injured victims were responding to treatment the same hospital.
