England football team captain, Harry Kane has admitted he is in contention to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or award.
Kane was speaking with Owen Hargreaves in an interview to be aired on HBO Max. According to him, the Ballon d’Or always throws up debates within football circles about who is the most deserving.
Kane has been listed as a front-runner for the prize alongside Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid, Lamine Yamal of Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of PSG, and Rodri of Barcelona.
But the Bayern Munich striker believes the winner will ultimately come down to those who vote in the polls.
“The thing with football opinions – there are so many opinions, so many arguments for different players, and people love this player because ‘he’s fast’ and ‘he’s got great IQ’ and ‘his finishing is great’,” Kane said.
“So I think that is what makes football special, all those debates, and the Ballon d’Or is definitely one of them. I’m happy that I am in contention, so we will have to wait and see.”
