A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has warned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, that Nigerians will not accept any excuses of system glitches in the 2027 general elections.

George made the statement on Monday during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, as the country begins preparations for the next general elections.

The elder statesman urged the new INEC chairman to avoid repeating what he described as the mistakes of the commission’s leadership during the 2023 elections, which were marred by complaints over technical failures.

Referring to the last general election, George recalled that despite the procurement of electoral technology, the process was later blamed on system glitches. He stressed that such explanations would no longer be acceptable.

“Remember the last election, when the necessary tools were provided. What did we hear afterwards? They said there was a glitch,” he said. “So let’s go back to basics. Mr. Amupitan, there should be no glitch in this system.”
