A devastating downpour in Mokwa has claimed the life of three-year-old Afnan after a residential building collapsed on her family around midnight on Monday.

Afnan, a three-year-old girl, was killed by a downpour in Mokwa town, which serves as the Mokwa Local Government Area headquarters in Niger State.

The room where the young child was sleeping with her mother and five siblings collapsed on them after a strong downpour that started at 12 a.m. on Monday, according to sources who spoke to Daily Trust.

Mr. Galadima Audu, a resident, informed Daily Trust that the mother and her five other children are presently being treated at a hospital after suffering serious injuries.

The incident occurred on Monday at around twelve in the morning. Around one in the morning, we arrived to the hospital. The mother was one of seven persons in the room.

The mother had broken legs. We had to extract shattered blocks from their bodies. The other kids are presently in the hospital after suffering injuries as well.

The deceased girl was taken to the hospital while still alive, but she passed just a few minutes later. He stated, “The father is working menial labor in Kiama, Kwara State.

Tifi-Maza, Shaba-Lile, Eti-Sheshi, Tako-Wangwa, Kpege, and Efu-Goro were identified by Galadima as the impacted locations. In a phone interview, Council Chairman Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi confirmed the occurrence and stated that the full extent of the damage had not yet been determined.

He continued by saying that numerous families were relocated as a result of the rainstorm’s destruction of homes and properties valued at millions of naira.
