A resident said four of the victims were members of the Hunters Association, while the fifth was a civilian.

After the attack, community members and the district head evacuated the victims, while the injured were taken to the Anglican Hospital in Gidan Waya.

Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS), Gidan Waya Command’s intelligence officer, Gaji Ampot, confirmed the attack to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Ampot said the gunmen stormed the office from two opposite directions and opened fire on the personnel while they were carrying out official duties.

All but one of the victims were our men. The fifth person k!lled was a student who was in our office to resolve an issue,” he said.

Security operatives under Operation FANSAN YAMMA later launched a pursuit.

Troops tracked the suspects towards Jagindi Forest, recovering an AK-47 rifle, an AK-49 rifle and a motorcycle after one suspect fled.
