A 74-year-old retired Nigerian-born U.S. Postal Service worker, Ade Tokumbo, is recovering after he was attacked outside a west Baltimore 7-Eleven store when he went to buy juice.
He stood outside of his home Thursday, October 8, 2026 and shared his story about what happened.
Tokumbo said he was assaulted by a group of juveniles outside the store not far from his home.
“I didn’t say a thing to them and they started attacking me and I defended myself,” Tokumbo said.
“When they did that to me, alright, I did not think of them as kids or children. I think of them for what they are, (expletive) demonic hood rats,” he added.
Surveillance video captured the attack, which happened July 7 just before 4 a.m. Tokumbo walked up to the store’s door, not realizing it was closed, when he said one suspect approached him with a semi-automatic weapon and several others joined in.
Tokumbo said the group demanded money and his car, but he refused and fought back.
“To defend myself. That’s why,” Tokumbo said.
“Look, I paid for that (car). Alright. I’m not going to let a criminal do what they want to do.
“I have absolutely no respect for criminals. I have no respect for them at all,” he added.
Tokumbo said he suffered serious injuries, including fractured ribs.
Police have asked for the public’s help identifying six individuals seen in the video who are wanted in connection with the attempted armed robbery. No arrests have been made.
Tokumbo expressed frustration with how the suspects are described.
“See you keep on saying juveniles and young people. I told you, I don’t think of them that way because they don’t act that way. Alright? They’re not doing, they’re doing absolutely nothing to assist us, alright? To help other people. All they’re doing is hurting people or k!lling people,” he said.
