Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently insisted that letting Lionel Messi leave the club was the best decision.

Messi left Barcelona in 2021, bringing to an end his 21-year romance with the Blaugrana.

The Argentina captain left Barcelona as a free agent after his contract expired at Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants were dealing with a severe financial crisis leading to Messi’s emotional exit.

The club’s president insisted that it was unavoidable. “I had to put Barca ahead of the best player in the history of football,” he said, according to Goal.

“In those moments of financial ruin, I could not retain him. I think it was the best for the club. Right now he is a PSG player and I prefer not to talk about him.”
