Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has given verdict on the club’s chances of finishing within the top four teams in the Premier League this season after their impressive 2-0 victory over Everton.
The Reds came out top from the Merseyside derby at Anfield, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.
It was the first time Liverpool won a Premier League game in 2023 and the victory also moved them back up to ninth in the table, nine points off the top four.
Entering the top four now looks more difficult than ever, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle currently occupying them.
With plenty of matches still left to be played this season, Reds legend, Carragher believes his Old club’s next game, which is against Newcastle on Saturday will prove decisive for Liverpool’s top four hopes.
“[Jurgen] Klopp has just got to hope Liverpool can now go on and try to make some sort of fight for that top four position,” the Reds legend said on Sky Sports.
“I still think it’s a big outside chance for them to make the top four. Liverpool’s next game away at Newcastle is vital.
‘If they get three points in that game, then I think they are back in the equation. There’s still so long in the season to go.”
