The clock is ticking for Chelsea head coach, Graham Potter, to save his job at the west London club amid the club’s recent poor form.
Potter’s side is currently in the 10th position on the Premier League log with 31 points from 24 games.
Potter has won just one of his last ten games in all competitions and continues to come under increasing pressure at Chelsea.
The Blues are currently undergoing a dismal run of form as they are winless in their last five games and have won only two of their last 15 games.
The Stamford Bridge club also has ten points behind 4th placed Newcastle United.
Chelsea suffered a devastating 1-0 loss to bottom-placed team Southampton in their latest Premier League outing on Saturday.
Calls for Potter to be sacked have garnered strength in the past few days.
DAILY POST reports that ‘#Sack Potter’ was trending number one on Twitter on Sunday night and on Monday afternoon.
Chelsea legend, Frank Lebeouf, recently urged the club’s co-owner Todd Boehly, to consider appointing former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane to succeed Potter should the Premier League giants decide to part ways with the Englishman, adding that it ‘would be a very good idea.’
Also, a popular British broadcaster, Richard Keys, urged Boehly to sack Potter, who he believed has “failed miserably”, and appoint AS Roma head coach, Jose Mourinho, as his replacement.
Just last month, Potter, who replaced Thomas Tuchel in September, said he would accept Chelsea’s decision if they decide to sack him.
“I’m not naive and if anyone I work for thinks the problem lies with me, they have every right to say, ‘Thank you very much, but it’s not working’, and I accept that,” Potter said.
However, DAILY POST reports that Chelsea’s next three games against Tottenham Hotspur (on February 26), Leeds United (on March 4) and Borussia Dortmund (on March 7) will play a big role in deciding Potter’s future at Chelsea as Boehly has already spent a huge amount of money to reinforce the club’s squad during the January transfer window.
Potter will have to lead Chelsea to get a good result when they face Tottenham in an away London Premier League derby on Sunday, when they host Leeds United in a Premier League tie next month at Stamford Bridge and Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 second-leg tie at home.
He will have to avoid defeats in the three games and at least get two wins and a draw to save his job at Chelsea.
There is no doubt that Potter is a great coach after his impressive record during his time at Brighton but this Chelsea job has come too early for him.
The 47-year-old is not the ‘winner’ Chelsea needs at the moment to spearhead Boehly’s long-term vision.
Chelsea is a club that should be competing for every single trophy possible but that is not happening so far this season.
