Men of the Ogun state police on Saturday , March 11, arrested a 33-year-old woman, Ifeoma Ossai, for allegedly killing her 50-year-old landlord, Monday Surulere Oladele, over a minor squabble.
Ifeoma was arrested following a report lodged at the Nigeria Police Divisional Headquarters Sango Ota by Mr Olaleye Taiwo, who reported that his brother, Monday Oladele had a quarrel with his tenant over the non payment of electricity bill.
A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, states that the Police PRO disclosed that Ifeoma grabbed the deceased’s private parts and dragged him along with it, causing the landlord to fall to the ground. He said the victim of this assault was rushed in an unconscious state to the Ota General Hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead.
Oyeyemi mentioned that when the DPO Sango Ota Division, CSP Saleh Dahiru, received the report, he quickly led his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested and taken into custody for questioning.
He said when interrogated, Ifeoma claimed that the deceased asked her to pay her electricity bill, but that she insisted that she will not pay the electricity or any other utility bill until water is directly connected to her apartment as promised by the landlord before she packed into her apartment.
The PRO asserted that it was this scuffle over payment of utility bill between the deceased landlord and his tenant that led to the deceased slumping, being rushed to the hospital, and being pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. He also informed that the corpse of the late landlord has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Oyeyemi mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
