The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, said it would begin a special operation, tagged: “Operation Scorpion” on unlatched Articulated trucks from March 25 in the state.

The Lagos State Sector Commander, Corps Commander (CC) Babatunde Farinloye, disclosed this in a statement signed by the Corps Head of Public Education and Enlightenment Superintendent Route Commander, Bisi Sonusi, on Wednesday.

According to him, the Command arrested 19 Articulated unlatched containerised trucks between March 10 and March 16 within the state.

He said,

“We will commence clampdown on unlatched containerised trucks that falls through our “Operation Scorpion” aimed at tackling the incessant crashes caused by unlatched containers within the state.”

Farinloye said some of the traffic offences in focus include driving without valid driver’s licence; expired or worn-out tyres; driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs; speed limit violations and dangerous driving.

The FRSC boss said that the Natio

nal Road Traffic Regulation (NRTR) 2012, Regulation 151 stated that “Articulated vehicles carrying containers should be properly latched.

“Thus, we demand that all vehicles carrying containers or goods must be adequately secured,” he said.

The sector commander urged logistic and haulage companies to ensure that their drivers were well trained, while their vehicles should always be in good conditions to avoid undue waste of lives and properties.

Farinloye said that in the course of the enforcement, errant drivers would be prosecuted accordingly.
