Chelsea boss, Graham Potter, has insisted that midfielder Mateo Kovacic is important for the team, suggesting that he wants to keep the former Real Madrid star at Stamford Bridge.
Potter said this while confirming his intention to trim the Chelsea squad in the summer window.
Recall that Kovacic, who is out of contract in the summer of 2024, has been linked with a reunion with his former manager Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich.
“The size of the squad is something we have to look at for the summer, but in the meantime, that is what we are working with,” Potter told Sky Sports.
He added, “Mateo is similar to Mason. He is someone I have huge respect for as a person. He has been great with us, very supportive, he plays a role in the team and has been the captain the last few games as well.
“So, from my perspective, he is important, but again, it is also between Mateo and the club to talk and when they have something to announce, I am sure they will announce it.”
