A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Hon. Ifeayin Igwe, has sued for peace over the tribal tension brewing across the country.
He insisted the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has what it takes to bring all Nigerians together for the actualisation of one indivisible country.
He described the post-election tribal sentiment being played up in some quarters as unwarranted, assuring the incoming administration of Tinubu will ensure every Nigerian is carried along and given a sense of belonging.
Igwe, who made these assertions at the weekend during a chat with The Nation in Abuja, said that Tinubu has been a national unifying agent since the beginning of the ongoing democratic dispensation.
Calling for calm, the former Ebonyi chairman of the defunct Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) said,
“I strongly believe that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has what it takes to bring all the regions together. He has what it takes to ensure there is equity, fairness, and justice, in terms of appointments, distribution of resources and infrastructure.
“There shall be equitable distribution of our common patrimony to give all Nigerians a sense of belonging.”
He further said that “With Asiwaju as President and with his leadership style of fairness and justice majority of the dissenting voices will reduce drastically, thereby creating a peaceful environment for national unity and cohesion.
“I know that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has the capacity to make all Nigerians a sense of belonging. I am sure he will give equal opportunities to all Nigerians irrespective of where they come from.
“The President-elect represents the renewed hope Nigerians are yearning for. We need a President, who will come on board, galvanised support and carry everybody along and ensure that we bring back the confidence of all Nigerians, especially the young people.
“The President-elect has the capacity and pedigree going by his track record in Lagos State when he was a governor. I have the conviction that he makes a good President and brings back the glory of Nigeria.”
On the integration of the Southeast region into mainstream national politics, the APC chieftain advised the President-elect to forge partnerships with the people of the geopolitical zone and meet with their leaders to further understand the grievances of the people, especially the youths and jointly find a workable solution to the issues.
Igwe also enjoined Tinubu to engage with the leadership of the Independent People of Biafra ( IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN), using some trusted South Easterners who shared in his vision to help educate and enlightened the young ones from being misguided.
