Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was only involved in physiotherapy and gym sessions at Napoli training centre yesterday as anxieties mount over his availability for next week’s UEFA Champions League tie with AC Milan at the San Siro.
Several sources confirmed that Napoli are eager waiting for Friday to know whether the Nigeria international will be available next week’s Champions League duel with their Serie A rivals.
Osimhen suffered a muscle injury while on international duty with Nigeria last week and missed Sunday’s 4-0 loss against Milan at the Stadio Maradona.
The Partenopei will meet Milan again in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final at San Siro on April 12, but Osimhen remains in doubt for the game
Napoli confirmed on Tuesday that their star striker underwent therapies in the morning at the club’s training centre in Castel Volturno. He did the same on Wednesday too.
According to the press release,
“Napoli were involved in training at the SSCN Konami Training Centre this morning(yesterday), the club posited on its website.“Luciano Spalletti’s men are preparing to face Lecce in their next fixture, kicking off at 19:00 CEST away at the Stadio Via del mare in Serie A Matchday 29.
“The session started with a warm-up and rondos. The players then moved on to a small-sided game, tactical work and dead-ball drills.
“Mathias Olivera followed a custom schedule while Victor Osimhen was seen to by the physio and spent time in the gym.”
But Osimhen is expected to be rested for Napoli’s away game with Lecce on Friday to ensure that the Super Eagles attacker is ready for the clash.
Friday will also be a key date to know whether Osimhen will be available against Milan next week. Napoli’s correspondent Massimo Ugolini maintains that the Partenopei will ‘need a miracle’ to have the striker back against the Rossoneri at San Siro.
