The Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State said the party’s candidate, Ahmadu Fintiri, will get the lead votes and be Finally declared governor-elect after the rerun scheduled for this Saturday, April 15.
The party at a press briefing yesterday said it will achieve this by fair means, and appealed to the electorate in the 69 polling units where the rerun will be held to turn out in their large numbers.
The Director General of the PDP Campaign Council, Dr Awwal Tukur, during the briefing in Yola, said,
“While we call for calm engagement and participation of the people and citizens of the state, let us again get to prove to the world that APC cannot win this rerun by popular voting.”
Tukur said that after observing that the APC tried underhand methods to get undue votes in the initial March 18 governorship election, the PDP had resolved to be watchful during the rerun and to ensure that the party gets credited with the votes that the people will cast for it.
Our correspondent recalls that PDP’s Fintiri had received the lead votes in the initial election, followed closely by Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani of the APC before the election was declared inconclusive because the margin of lead was lower than the number of PVCs collected where votes were cancelled.
The supplementary governorship election, as well as supplementary House of Assembly election in four local governments, has been fixed for Saturday.
With PDP’s 421,524 votes and APC’s 390,375 (a difference of 31,049) and less than 40,000 maximum votes expected from the rerun, the PDP expressed confidence at the briefing that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is as good as returned reelected.
