Kano State Police Command has arrested 83 suspected criminals for various offences and recovered dangerous weapons, illicit drugs and stolen properties.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who made this known in a statement on Wednesday, April 27, 2023, said the suspects were arrested between April 21-25, during and after the Eid el-Fitr celebration in all the five Emirate councils of the state.
According to the PPRO, the suspects were apprehended with dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.
“In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police of the Nigeria Police Force, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, on the provision of adequate security during the concluded Eid-El-Fitr Sallah Festivities, Kano State Police Command under the leadership of the Acting Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Mu’azu U. Mohammed, sister security agencies and the command’s community policing stakeholders succeeded in ensuring a very peaceful atmosphere that led to a serene Eid-El-Fitr Sallah Festivities conducted between 21st – 25th April 2023,” the statement read.
“On this note, the Acting Commissioner of Police thanked and appreciates the Kano State Government, Sister Security Agencies, Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, the good people of Kano State, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), members of Vigilante Groups, members of Special Constabulary, and the Command’s Community Policing Stakeholders for their prayers, encouragement, continuous support and cooperation that led to the peace being enjoyed in Kano State, and the arrest of suspects made.
“Eighty-Three (83) suspected thugs (‘Yan Daba) were arrested between the 21st – 25th of April 2023 during the “Hawan Eid”, “Hawan Daushe”, “Hawan Nassarawa”, “Hawan Fanisau” and after the Sallah Celebrations in all the Five Emirate Councils of the State. Suspects were arrested with dangerous weapons, robbed properties, illicit drugs and stolen properties. The suspects are under investigation.
“The Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring the security and safety of the good people of the State. He strongly warns that criminals will have no hiding place in Kano State. They are advised to either repent or leave the State completely. He urged residents to continue to pray for the State, and the Nation, report incidents to the nearest Police Station, and not take laws into their hands. Rigorous patrols, raids of criminal hideouts, and black spots will continue throughout the State, as the command will sustain the ongoing “Community Policing Engagements” that are yielding positive results
