Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has compared Taiwo Awoniyi to former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba after his impressive display against Southampton.

Awoniyi scored two beautiful goals as Forest eased their relegation worries courtesy of a thrilling 4-3 win against the Saints at the City Ground on Monday night.

The 25-year-old gave Steve Cooper’s side the lead on 18 minutes following good work by Brennan Johnson.

Three minutes later, Awoniyi turned well to put the ball beyond Alex McCarthy in the Southampton goal.

“He (Awoniyi) reminded me of Drogba as soon as I saw the goal,” Carragher said on Monday Night Football.

“Absolutely brilliant. I’ve been in that position as a defender.

“The turn – and bang. Brilliant.”

The Nigeria international has scored six goals and recorded one assist in 25 league appearances for Nottingham Forest this season.
