Inter Milan president Steven Zhang has hinted that Romelu Lukaku could return to his parent club Chelsea this summer, as the Serie A giants have yet to hold talks with the Blues over a permanent deal for the striker.
After struggling in his first season back at Chelsea following his £97.5 million move in 2021, Lukaku was allowed to re-join Inter Milan on loan last summer for this season.
The Belgian has struggled with injuries this season but still managed to end the campaign with 14 goals in all competitions for Inter.
It remains unclear whether Lukaku will be a part of new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at Stamford Bridge next season, and the west London club are expected to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window.
“He [Lukaku] has shown to be a great forward for Inter; he is an extraordinary guy,” Zhang was quoted by Metro as saying after Inter Milan’s Champions League final defeat against Man City on Saturday night in Turkey.
“He is under contract at Chelsea, so we will have to wait and speak with them to understand his situation,” he added.
