Two men, Ovuifedma Smadi, 23, and Destiny Michael, 33, on Friday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged house breaking and stealing.

The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a three-count charge of house breaking, stealing and threat to life.

The police prosecutor, Insp Olumide Bamigbade, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on June 2 at about 4:00 a.m., at Falegan Area in Ado-Ekiti.

Bamigbade alleged that the defendants broke into the house of one Mrs Adeolu Abimbola by tearing the window net.

He alleged that the defendants stole a purse containing one Infinix note 10 phone valued at N123,000, one UBA ATM card, receipts of goods and N380,000 cash belonging to the complainant.

He also alleged that the defendants threatened the complainant with machete.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 322 (b), 302 and 69(b) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr Luke Mbam, urged the court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 19 for hearing.
