Former Premier League star, Jaap Stam has addressed concerns over the height of Arsenal’s incoming centre back Jurrien Timber.
In a matter of hours, the Gunners would be unveiling the Dutchman ahead of their preseason tour.
Timber is closing in on a £40m move to Arsenal from Ajax and has undergone a medical at the Emirates Stadium on Friday.
However, there are suggestions that Timber, who is 5 ft 10, could struggle in the top flight of English football.
The same thing was said about Manchester United’s centre-back Lisandro Martinez when he moved from Ajax to Old Trafford last summer. But the Argentine turned out to be one of the best defenders in the Premier League last season.
Stam, who won three league titles with the Red Devils, told CharlesWatts.football, “I don’t think you need to worry about that.
“If you bring in a player you are looking to be very dominant and want to keep possession, it means you don’t need to defend a lot.
“We all know Timber is not the biggest, but Zinchenko is not the biggest on the other side.”
