Liverpool legend, Robbie Fowler has hit out at Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard’s critics by using a Cristiano Ronaldo reference.
Gerrard was recently appointed as the manager of SPL side, Al-Ettifaq on a mega deal.
Henderson, on the other hand, has received a mega offer of reported £700,000 per week salary to join Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq.
However, Henderson was criticized by former Liverpool winger, Jermain Pennant who questioned whether the England midfielder is worthy of receiving such an excessive amount of money.
But Fowler insisted that people didn’t criticize Ronaldo when the former Manchester United forward decided to join SPL side Al-Nassr in a mega-money move.
“It’s Jordan Henderson’s alleged salaries that have sparked the outrage and, as regular readers will know, I never understood why footballers’ salaries are such a sensitive topic, while the billions billed by finance companies never are questioned,” Fowler said (via O Jogo Portugal).
“Let’s get one thing straight. I am not going to condemn Jordan, Steven Gerrard or anyone else who has gone to work in Saudi Arabia or is considering doing so.
“It is not simply a matter of money. So, I disagree with people who criticize Jordan Henderson or Steven Gerrard for that reason. Last year, I didn’t see anyone criticizing Cristiano Ronaldo for taking the money.”
