Operatives of Ekiti State Police Command have arrested three suspects who specialize in attacking farmers and stealing their farm produce.
The command spokesperson, DSP Abutu Sunday, disclosed this in a statement released on Monday, July 24.
“On 13/07/2023 at about 1400hrs, the Command Rapid Response Squad (RRS)upon a complaint, arrested one Ogunlusi Damilola ‘m’, Olorunsola Segun ‘m’ and Sekoni Tunde ‘m’ who specialize in attacking farmers and stealing their farm produces.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed that on 12/07/2023 at about 1700hrs, they went to the complainant’s farm situated off lyin-Ado express Road. lyin-Ekiti, attacked him with a machete and carted away some tubers of yam.
They further confessed that on 27/06/2023, they entered another farm settlement at Ipole-Ekiti where one Awe Taiwo Julius ‘m’ was inflicted with serious injuries, and ten tubers of yam were carted away in the process. The 85-year-old victim later died while receiving treatment at Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.”
He said the stolen yam tubers were recovered, while effort is still ongoing to arrest other members of the gang now at large. The police spokesperson added that the suspects will be arraigned in court at the end of the investigation.
