England’s forward, Lauren James, 21, has received a two-match ban for stamping Nigerian Fullback, Michelle Alozie, in the Women’s World Cup round of 16.

James will only play again in the tournament if England advances all the way to the final, according to Fifa’s confirmation of the ban.

Dominant Nigeria lost to England on penalties, subsequently after James was shown a red card in the 87th minute of the game. However, Nigeria’s 20-shot attempts were not enough to see them to the next round.

James, however, apologised to Alozie for the incident on social media and reiterated her “love and respect” for the Nigerian fullback. The attacker further stated that she would “learn from the experience”.

Prior to that, the gallant Nigerian, on Tuesday, expressed her respect for James.

She tweeted,

“abeg, rest. we are playing on the world’s stage. this game is one of passion, insurmountable emotions, and moments. all respect for Lauren James.”
