Detectives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested a couple, Mr. Ajayi Opeyemi and Asake Opeyemi, who specialize in burglary and recovered stolen goods estimated at about N3 million Naira from their possession.

Addressing newsmen at the Command Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dare Ogundare, said the suspects were arrested in Eyin-Ogbe quarters, Aramoko-Ekiti, in Ekiti West local government area of the state by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) attached to the command.

The police boss who described the couple as serial burglars, said they were arrested at a criminal hideout in the community on September 22, 2023, following credible information from the residents of the area.

He explained that the duo have burgled more than five different houses and shops belonging to different owners in the ancient community and carted away goods, before they were arrested by the operatives.

During interrogation, the husband, a carpenter and father of two described himself as a victim of circumstances.

Ajayi, who confessed to the commission of the crime, said the stolen goods were recovered by the police in his wife’s shop.

He said his wife usually takes the goods to other markets in a neighbouring community to sell.

Some of the goods recovered by the police from the suspects are 400 pieces of jean trousers, shirts, short knickers, jackets, face caps, underwear, large quantities of women accessories and lingerie goods,  assorted wines, provision and food stuff estimated at about N3 million.

The CP said the suspects who are currently detained at the Anti-Crime section of the command in Ado-Ekiti are still helping the police with more facts.

He assured that the couple would be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.
