The Police Command in Benue has confirmed the release of the state Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Mr Mathew Abo, who was abducted at his residence in Zaki-Biam on Sunday, September. 24.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Sewuese Anene, confirmed the development on Thursday, October 5, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi.

The commissioner was kidnapped when gunmen stormed his home last week, and ordered everyone in the house, including his wife and children, to lie face down, before they took him away to an unknown destination.

Mr. Abo had spent 10 days in captivity before regaining his freedom.

SP Sewuese said Abo was released in the early hours of Thursday at about 1:00am and has been reunited with his family.

It’s unclear if his family paid any ransom before his release.
