Bandits have killed four farmers and abducted eight others from Nahuta village in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
It was gathered that the farmers were at the farm to harvest their potatoes when the bandits attacked around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
“You know we’ve been going through difficulties in these areas for years, so some of our farmers and elders met and decided to be going to the farm in large numbers to avoid threats. And they’ve been doing that for some time now,” a source who is a health worker told the Premium Times.
“Yesterday, they went to pluck out their potatoes, as we have a lot of potato farmers in the area when the terrorists surrounded and opened fire on them,”
The source said his neighbour, Sule Dan Tsuntsu, was one of the four farmers killed by the bandits while several others were wounded.
Spokesman of the police in the state, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, who confirmed the incident on Sunday, said the farmers were harvesting their crops when the assailants struck.
The PPRO said one of the farmers that managed to escape received gunshot wounds.
“The suspected bandits attacked the farmers, opened fire on them thereby killing four and injuring one; they also abducted eight others,’’ Aliyu added.
