Arsenal are in talks with FC Nantes over recalling Marquinhos from his loan this January transfer window in a bid to bolster their manager, Mikel Arteta’s attacking options in the second half of the season.

Marquinhos joined the French Ligue 1 club last August on a season-long loan but has only been handed one start to date.

The 20-year-old forward, who signed a long-term contract with the Gunners in the summer of 2022, could now be set to return to the Premier League North London club early, according to L’Équipe.

The Brazilian has played six times for Arsenal to date.

He scored a goal and assist on his debut, which came in a Europa League win over FC Zurich.

Meanwhile, Arteta lauded Marquinhos after that match, saying: “He is a player that is very popular, with no English, just with his smile and attitude has won the respect and admiration of everybody here.”
