The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has rescued a pregnant woman assaulted by her husband in the Mushin area of the state.

The DSVA Executive Secretary, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, disclosed this in a statement.

She said that the agency received a distress call on Wednesday, Jan. 17, from a reporter regarding an alleged domestic violence case.

“Following the recent report of a seven-month pregnant woman’s death due to domestic violence, the agency received another distress call from a mandated reporter concerning another alleged domestic violence case involving a pregnant woman and her husband,” she said.

“It was alleged that the expectant mother was physically assaulted by her partner, who then locked her in their Mushin apartment.”

“The alleged assault reportedly resulted in the pregnant woman losing consciousness, prompting neighbours to intervene and rush her to the hospital for medical attention.”

Vivour-Adeniyi reported that the agency contacted the police, leading to the alleged perpetrator’s arrest.

“DSVA immediately contacted the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad, and police officers from the Mushin police station were immediately dispatched to the scene,” she said.

“The suspect has been apprehended, while the survivor remains unconscious.”

She stressed the state’s zero-tolerance stance towards domestic violence and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to assisting survivors.

“While highlighting the potential dangers and negative ripple effects of domestic violence on survivors and society at large, we reiterate that the State Government remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of these heinous crimes are held accountable,” Vivour-Adeniyi stated.

“We appreciate the neighbours who called for help and contacted the agency.”

The DSVA boss urged victims of domestic violence to break the silence and seek help.

“Report promptly to authorities like the DSVA, either through the toll-free hotline 08000 333 333 or by visiting Novel House, Plot 3, Otunba Jobi Fele Way, Central Business District, Alausa, Ikeja,” she said.
