Three secondary school students have perished in an accident along the Jahun/Kiyawa Road in Jigawa State.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the accident in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday, March 17, 2024.
According to the PPRO, the crash which occurred on Friday, March 15, involved a Sharon Galaxy vehicle heading to Gwaram Local Government Area of the State.
He added that the vehicle was driven by one Rabi’u Abdullahi, 50, of Babaldo town in Gwaram LGA.
The vehicle, which was carrying students of Government Girls Secondary School Kaugama on vacation to Gwaram, overturned after a tyre burst at the Kadirawa Village.
Shiisu noted that while eight students were treated and discharged at Jahun General Hospital, the driver and six others were referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu for further treatment.
The PRO added that preliminary investigation suggested that overloading and worn-out tyres contributed to the accident.
He stated that the corpses of the three deceased students were released to the Education Secretary of Gwaram LGA on behalf of their families.
