Three persons were killed and 130 civilians were abducted when bandits unleashed terror on the Goran Namaye community in the Maradun local government area of Zamfara State.

Leadership reports that a resident in the area identified as Salisu Lawali said the bandits besieged the town at around 1am on Thursday, May 16, operating from house to house.

Lawali further said that the kidnapped persons were mainly women and some men, confirming also the killing of three people during the invasion.

“As I speak to you, many of our people were missing and we lost three of our men to this tragic incident,” he said.

The resident also added that the bandits came in large numbers on motorcycles with heavy weapons and surrounded the town before attacking the people.

“They came in a large number and surrounded the whole town while some began house-to-house operations and chased our people mainly women into the bush” he added

Lawali called on federal and state governments to come to the rescue of the abducted persons saying, ‘I wish to call on federal and Zamfara State government to deploy security personnel to the area to trace the hideout of these terrorists and rescue our people as we don’t have anything to pay for ransom.”

Security agencies in the state have not issued a statement regarding the attack at the time of filing this report.
