The Osun State Police Command has arrested suspected members of the proscribed Yoruba Nation.

The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, made this known to journalists during a suspects’ parade at the Command headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday, September 18.

The paraded suspects include 61-year-old Fagbayi Oluwafemi, 63-year-old Joy Faseyeku and 64-year-old Alabede Janet.

Emmanuel noted the trio were arrested for alleged conspiracy, unlawful assembly, secession and treasonable felony at the Obada Market, Ikire, while addressing and urging traders to embrace and support the Yoruba Nation.

The police spokesperson also revealed that the suspects also urged traders in the market to denounce their allegiance to Nigeria as a nation.

According to him, “On the 27th of August, 2024 at about 1400hrs through credible information, the DPO, Divisional Police Headquarters, Ikire and Team arrested one Fagbuyi Oluwafemi ‘m’ 61yrs, a native of Akure, Ondo State in Obada Market, Ikire addressing marketers to embrace and support the Yoruba Nation.

“He also urged traders in the market to denounce their allegiance to Nigeria as a Nation. He claimed that Nigeria ended in 2014 after 100 years of amalgamation. He displayed the Yoruba Nation’s flag in the process. The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department after a preliminary investigation.

“Through diligent investigation, Joy Faseyiku ‘f’ 63yrs and Alabede Janet ‘f’ 64yrs were arrested in Osogbo and Ikire town respectively in connection with the crime.”

Exhibits recovered from the suspects he said include the Oodua Nation flag, one tripod stand, one megaphone, two mobile phones, handbills and one baseball cap with the Oodua Nation emblazoned on it.

He also said investigations had been concluded and the suspects have been charged to the Federal High Court accordingly.
