President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 19th G20 Leaders Summit scheduled for November 18 and 19. The summit, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will convene leaders from the world’s largest economies to address pressing global challenges.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga revealed this in a statement on Sunday, highlighting the summit’s theme: “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.” Discussions will focus on combating poverty and hunger, energy transition, and fostering sustainable development.

President Tinubu is expected to advocate for reforms in global governance institutions—a longstanding Nigerian priority. Onanuga noted, “Nigeria has consistently championed the reform of global governing institutions and presented its strong credentials for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.”

The President will also engage in bilateral meetings with world leaders to advance Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms, particularly in agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.

Joining the President on the trip are Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Livestock Development Mukhtar Maiha, and Minister of Arts, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity Hannatu Musawa.

This summit offers Nigeria an opportunity to assert its position on global issues while seeking strategic partnerships for domestic growth.
