A fatal road crash on the Ife–Ilesa road has claimed the lives of five people, including a female child.

The accident, which occurred around DUSBIN, involved a Toyota Hilux and a trailer.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, the crash occurred at approximately 10:15 am on Saturday, 19 April 2025, and was attributed to a traffic violation by the trailer driver, who drove against traffic.

The Osun Sector Command of FRSC, in a report, confirmed that a total of nine people were involved in the accident, including six male adults, two female adults, and one female child.

According to the statement by Agnes Ogungbemi, the Osun Sector Public Enlightenment Officer: “Five victims–three male adults, one female adult, and one female child–were confirmed dead at the scene. One female adult sustained injuries and was transported to Mayowa Hospital, Ipetumodu.

“The trailer, identified only as a white Mark with no registration number provided, collided with a white Toyota Hilux with registration number FKJ691HZ, which is classified as a private vehicle.”

Ogungbemi, speaking on behalf of the Sector Commander, Corps Commander T. A. Sokunbi, disclosed: “The driver is presently in NPF custody and will be charged in court. The cause of the crash has been identified as route traffic violation (one-way driving).

“Recovered from the crash site were personal belongings, including a small bag containing jewellery, several bags of clothes, and cash totalling N508,900. These items were handed over to family members at the scene.

“The dead bodies have been deposited at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital mortuary. The vehicles involved in the crash have been taken over by the Nigerian Police Force, Edun-Abun Division.”
