Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of fire incident that ravaged a residential building in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

NEWSUNPLUG gathered that the incident occurred on Monday.

It was learnt that the incident occurred in one of the residential buildings around Oje market in Ibadan. Our correspondent learnt that the fire affected the upper floor of the building.

It was learnt that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the inferno.

Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande confirmed the development in a statement.

Akinwande in the statement made available to newsunplug said no casualty was recorded in the incident.

He said, “The fire emergency call was received at exactly 14:00hrs on Monday afternoon through Oyo State Security Trust Fund Control room toll free 615.

“Immediately the address of the fire was taken, fire personnel led by ACFS Adekola promptly deployed to the scene of the incident. On arrival, we met the upper floor of a storey residential building located inside Oje market engulfed by fire and the men of the fire service quickly curtailed the fire and restricted it from spreading to the first floor of the building surrounding shops as well as other properties.

“No casualty was recorded, the fire damaged the upper floor and the Agency’s personnel were able to save properties worth billions of naira in the market. The fire incident was as a result of sparks from radio system plugged when not in use and ignited nearby combustible materials.

“The SA on Fire Services Agency Reform/ Chairman urges the public to understand that fire outbreak was not a seasonal occurrence but it could happen at any time when the three factors (heat, fuel and oxygen) of fire were sufficiently combined, then fire is inevitable.

“Therefore, fire prevention is the business of everybody. Let us keep our communities save from fire disaster through consciousness.”
