A man who found his ex-partner’s de@d body in his home and lived alongside it for years has been jailed.

Jamie Stevens, 51, covered the body of Anouska Sites with a blanket at his apartment in Torquay, England, after she d!ed in 2022, and then then continued to live there as his ex’s body decomposed for years.

Ms Sites was reported missing on April 10, 2025, with police confirming that the last known siting of her was on May 21, 2022.

A statement from Devon and Cornwall police said that an investigation had led to officers to speak to Stevens, who told them that he had not seen Ms Sites since February or March 2022.

Officers then attended Stevens’ home on Upton Road a number of times but there was no reply.

Detectives eventually got inside the apartment on May 27, 2025, making the grim discovery.

They found the body of a woman, which was later confirmed to be Ms Sites.

Stevens was arrested, telling police that Ms Sites had stayed with him for one night in January 2023.

He said he then went out in the morning and when he came home he found her de@d.

This is when he decided to cover her body with a blanket and leave her in the same place.

Stevens told police that he was aware he did not do the right thing and said that looking back he didn’t know why he had not called emergency services.

He admitted that his story didn’t “sound right”. He also admitted to lying to police about when he last had contact with Ms Sites.

At Exeter Crown Court, he was sentenced to 14 months’ imprisonment for preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body between the dates of May 21, 2022, and May 28, 2025.

He was also sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment for committing an act or series of acts with the intent to pervert the course of justice between April 10 and May 28, 2025.

The second sentence will be served concurrently, and Ms Sites’ death is not being treated as suspicious.

Senior investigating officer Jeanne Hellyer said that she welcomed the sentence handed down in the “sad and tragic case”.

“Anouska was denied the dignity and right of a lawful burial on her death by Stevens,” she said.

“My thoughts remain with Anouska’s family and friends, who can now lay her to rest.”
