The Kano State Police Command in a recent operation arrested three individuals suspected of impersonating security personnel and defrauding an unsuspecting victim of one million, thirty thousand naira (N1,030,000.00).

The spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, September 4, 2025 said the suspects had claimed to possess special abilities to assist the victim.

“The suspects, identified as Nasiru Adamu (30 years old, male, from Sokoto State), Yusuf Sani (49 years old, male, and Aliyu Yusuf (25 years old, male, both from Daura LGA, Katsina State), were apprehended on 2nd September 2025, at approximately 1:30 PM, at Danagundi Quarters, Kano,” the statement read.

“The arrest followed a distress call from the victim, Salisu Ibrahim, who reported that the suspects had fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,030,000.00 from him.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly posed as security personnel and deceitfully claimed to possess special abilities to assist the victim. They instructed him to bring the money to a specific location, where they planned to provide further instructions through a whispered message.

“Acting swiftly on the distress call and with the assistance of the public, the Police successfully arrested the suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.

“The Kano State Police Command urges anyone who may have fallen victim to similar fraudulent schemes to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the Investigation Police Officer (IPO) at 08030507708.

“Members of the public are also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s emergency numbers.”

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, SFIPMA, MNIM, MNIPS, MASIS, commends the swift response of the Police operatives and the cooperative efforts of the public in ensuring the arrest of the suspects. He further appreciates the ongoing support of the Kano State community in maintaining peace and security.”

CP Bakori reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the State. He assures the public that the Kano State Police Command remains resolute in its efforts to combat crime, uphold justice, and redeem the trust and confidence of the people in the Police Force.

“The Command emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the Police and the public in tackling crime and creating a safer society for all, and also complimenting the Command’s ongoing ‘Operation Kukan Kura’”
