Reality TV star and entrepreneur Leo Da Silva has called out Nigerians who try to dictate how others mourn the death of their loved ones.
In a post, Leo reacted to the story of a man who recently lost his wife, leaving him with three children. The man, who usually created content with his late wife, explained that staying active online was the only way to provide for his family. Some Nigerians, however, told him to log off social media to grieve.
Responding to the situation, Leo wrote:
“This guy makes content with his wife and his wife just d!ed leaving him with 3 kids. Nigerians are telling him to go offline to mourn. He’s telling them he needs to be online so he can feed his family. Who tf are you to tell anyone what to do after they lose their loved one?”
The post sparked conversations, with some of Leo’s followers sharing their personal experiences, to which he also responded.
One follower recounted:
“A friend lost his dad. At the burial his phone rang and he picked up. I overheard some saying ‘how can you be answering calls while your dad is being buried.’ So I had to ask who called and he said it was his dad’s brother (his uncle) asking for the location of the event.”
Leo reacted: “Nigerians like holier than thou.”
Another follower wrote:
“When I lost my wife 3yrs ago, people asked me to stop posting about my business online and on my status because to them it was insensitive. These were people who didn’t even contribute a kobo to her coffin nor burial.”
Leo replied: “My condolences, people like to dictate where they know nothing about anything.”
