The manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has revealed why the club decided to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma despite having James Trafford.

Pep Guardiola was speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Manchester derby. According to the Spaniard, Donnarumma’s height was a major factor why the club decided to sign him.

He said,

“Donnarumma is so tall and so huge. He is going to concede goals. That’s for sure. But, all of us, we’re going to try to help him so it doesn’t happen.”

He also spoke about the choice off who will start between Donnarumma and Trafford.

“He is a keeper for Manchester City. The season is so long. Now we start the real season with many games, and everybody will be involved. They don’t believe it, but it’s going to happen.”

Manchester City have officially secured the signing of Italian goalkeeper Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth around £26–30 million. The 26-year-old shot-stopper has signed a five-year contract, with the option of an additional year, and will wear the number 99 shirt at the Etihad.

His arrival marks a new era between the posts for Pep Guardiola’s side, following the departure of long-serving Brazilian keeper Ederson, who joined Fenerbahçe earlier in the summer.
