Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has said he dropped Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz for Saturday’s clash against Everton to help manage a hectic fixture schedule.
Isak and Wirtz started the game at Anfield from the bench.
Slot has gone with the duo of Hugo Ekitike and Dominik Szobozslai for the Merseyside Derby.
Isak, a £125 million signing from Newcastle, made his debut in midweek, while Wirtz has featured in every game so far in the campaign.
Speaking ahead of the game, Slot admitted that the busy week played a part in his thinking.
He said: “We needed players that were going to be ready for this game and going to be fit enough for the intensity of the game from the start.
“That is what we tried to do throughout every line-up we have made against Burnley and Atletico for us to be ready for this game.”
