The head coach of Chelsea Football Club Enzo Maresca has given an update on the fitness of Cole Palmer ahead of the League Cup game against Lincoln City.
Enzo Maresca confirmed that Cole Palmer was not fully fit for the game against Manchester United but insisted he wanted to play the game. However, he confirmed that the midfielder will be assessed to determine the extent of his injury.
He said,
“He did already a huge effort to try to play the game. He wants to be there to help his teammates in that kind of game. It’s more day by day, week by week, game by game, to see how he is.”
Palmer has been a key part of Chelsea’s success in recent seasons and will be a blow to Maresca’s plan going into the rest of the season. He also gave updates on Romeo Lavia and Berniot Badiashile’s who have not been available for the most part of the season.
He said,
“They are not back for this game, unfortunately. They both took part of the session yesterday. Hopefully they can be available soon.”
He also reflected on the game against Manchester United.
“The game is dictated by the red card. When it was 10v10, we had almost 70% possession. I hope we don’t have any more games with 10 players after 3-4 minutes”
Chelsea fans will hope that the injuries to these players do not affect their performance in their quest to challenge for most titles this season.
