Fuji star Saheed Osupa has spoken out after Afrobeats powerhouse Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, publicly named him his Greatest of All Time (GOAT) singer during an international appearance.
The Grammy winner revealed his pick while discussing musical inspirations with tennis legend Roger Federer in Zurich, Switzerland. When Federer asked who he considered his GOAT singers, Burna Boy answered: “My GOAT singers are mostly Fuji artistes like the Fuji legend, Saheed Osupa.” Federer listed his own favorites as Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, and Freddie Mercury.
Burna Boy has long admired Osupa’s artistry. In 2023, he described the Fuji icon to his crew as a “Yoruba Wutang” and “Wutang Ibile.”
Reacting to the recent tribute, Osupa called Burna Boy’s recognition a landmark for Fuji music and a celebration of Nigerian culture.
“I am profoundly grateful for this powerful acknowledgment from a true Afropop titan, the African Giant himself, of whom I am also a great fan. Together, we are redefining African music legacy and inspiring the world with authentic, vibrant sounds.
To Oluwa Burna and every music lover embracing our story thank you for believing in the magic of Fuji. Thank you for believing in Africa’s ingenious creativity,” Osupa said.
He added that he looks forward to attending one of Burna Boy’s upcoming concerts to appreciate his talents and reciprocate the genuine love.
