The Public Complaints Commission together with the Federal Capital Territory’s Police Command have rescued 16 children that were being abus£d at an orphanage in Dogongada, Lokogoma, FCT.
A joint operation by the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) and the FCT Police Command has led to the rescue of 16 children that were subjected to abus£ in an illegal orphanage located in the Dongoganda area of Lokogoma, Abuja.
Officials raided the premises after reports indicated that the children were being subjected to severe hardship, emotional trauma, and neglect. The facility was found to be operating without meeting minimum standards of child care and protection.
The rescued children have been evacuated to safety, while investigations are ongoing to bring the operators of the orphanage to justice.
Before their rescue, a viral video showed the children looking malnourished. Many of them had wounds on their bodies. One of the children had burns on his body, allegedly from being poured hot water. Another had a broken leg that was not treated.
Condemning the children’s condition, a voice is heard saying: “Where they’re staying is nothing to write home about but there’s a store filled with many foods and clothes, but see what these children are wearing.”
