A former Miss Jamaica Universe pageant contestant was reportedly found Tuesday evening, September 23, at her home hanging from her bed frame with a pink curtain around her neck.
She has been identified as 26-year-old Tyra Spaulding, a model and an accountant.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Network (CCN) told Observer Online that the incident occurred sometime around 6:55 pm on Tuesday.
The police are now probing a suspected case of su!cide.
The Miss Universe Jamaica Organization says it is deeply saddened by the passing of Tyra Spaulding, who was a beloved finalist in the 2023 staging of its competition.
In a statement on Thursday, September 25, the organisation said, “Tyra was more than a contestant; she was a vibrant, intelligent and inspiring young woman whose grace and spirit touched everyone she met.”
It also extended condolences to her family, friends and loved ones on behalf of the reigning Miss Universe Jamaica, Dr Gabrielle Henry and National Directors Mark McDermoth and Karl Williams.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them as we remember and honour her remarkable life and legacy. May she rest in eternal peace,” the organisation said.
Spaulding was also reportedly an advocate for mental health and suicide prevention.
