Veteran Yoruba actress Toyin Afolayan, popularly known as Lola Idije, has spoken out to correct misconceptions about her personality, which many people confuse with the characters she portrays on screen.
Often cast as a harsh or troublesome mother-in-law in Yoruba films, the actress clarified that her real-life demeanor is far from the roles she plays. Speaking during a podcast with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, Lola Idije explained that her strong performances are not fueled by alcohol or cigarettes, as some assume.
Lola, the younger sister of the late Adeyemi Afolayan, popularly known as Ade Love one of the trailblazers of Nollywood revealed that her brother’s commitment to physical agility and discipline influenced her acting approach.
Her big break came in 1995 when she starred as Madam Adisa in the film Deadly Affair. Over the years, she has not only become a household name but also the originator of popular catchphrases such as “Soro Soke Werey” and “Pele My Dear,” which have gained traction on social media.
Meanwhile, Lola also addressed rumors that actress Biodun Okeowo, better known as Omoborty, married her daughter’s alleged ex-boyfriend. She dismissed the claims as false, clarifying that her first interaction with Omoborty’s husband was through a phone call when the actress personally introduced him.
